Sarmistha Sen murder charge, Man arrested in murder of Texas woman

Sarmistha Sen murder charge, Man arrested in murder of Texas woman.

A man is facing a capital murder charge in connection with the slaying of a cancer researcher and mother of two who was found dead near a creek in Plano earlier this month, police said Monday.

Detectives served an arrest warrant Monday for Bakari Abiona Moncrief, 29, in connection with the death of 43-year-old Sarmistha Sen, Plano police said.

Moncrief had previously been named a person of interest in Sen’s slaying.

She was found the morning of Aug. 1, after police were called to Legacy Drive and Marchman Way to check on a woman who appeared to be lying down near Spring Creek. Sen was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police wrote in court records obtained Monday by The Dallas Morning News that Moncrief attacked Sen while she was on a jogging trail, then restrained her and brought her to the creek under Legacy Drive, where she was killed.

Based on a ruling from the medical examiner and possible weapons found at the scene, police think Sen died of blunt force injuries, according to the affidavit.

The document didn’t offer a motive for the slaying but said Moncrief may have been showing signs of mental health issues about that time. An attorney listed for Moncrief didn’t immediately return a message left at his office Monday afternoon.

DNA testing later confirmed that Sen’s blood was found on Moncrief’s clothing, according to the affidavit.
